Steps

  1. 1Back up your saves and ROMs from the TF2 (GAME) card to a computer first.
  2. 2Download the latest official RG40XX H OS image from win.anbernic.com/download and unzip it to get the .img file.
  3. 3Open balenaEtcher, select the .img, choose your TF1 (OS) microSD card, and flash it.
  4. 4Put the freshly imaged card back in the TF1 slot and the ROM card in the TF2 slot.

The RG40XX H stock firmware is distributed as a disk image (.img) that you write to the TF1 (OS) microSD card with a normal imaging tool such as balenaEtcher; the TF2 card keeps your ROMs and saves. Re-imaging TF1 replaces the whole operating system, so back up TF2 first as a precaution. The current official release on the Anbernic download portal is RG40XX H-V1.1.0-EN16GB (the 64GB image must be requested from Anbernic customer service). This is a DRAFT for human review.

FAQ

Which microSD card does the firmware go on?
The TF1 (OS) slot. The TF2 slot holds your ROMs and saves and is not touched by writing the OS image, but back it up first to be safe.
Do I lose my games when I update?
Games and saves on the separate TF2 (GAME) card stay put. Only the TF1 OS card is overwritten when you flash the new image.
